How To Make Window Blinds
Window blinds are great to improve rooms of your house but did you know they can also make a great hobby for the right person? Many people have a great time creating their very own custom made drapes and blinds in the comfort of their own home or garage. All you need is a little motivation, some practice, and a head full of ideas. Not only can you make special blinds for yourself, you may even be able to start your own home business in your spare time while doing something you love.
Many people who decide they want to make window blinds think it would be too hard to have them look nice and actually work too. It really isn't that hard at all. If you ask around at your local hardware store or do it yourself shop, you might find someone very knowledgeable in that particular area and there could even be a local club that gets together to share ideas about blinds and drapes they make themselves. One of the easiest, cheapest, and most forgiving materials to begin with is wood. Wood is easy to work with and can easily be shortened if you make a piece too long. Just don't cut too short to begin with.
It's fun and easy to make the wooden slats that will be the blinds but the trouble comes when you have to work on the pulley system. One of the best things you can do is buy some cheap blinds at a garage sale or discount store and systematically tear them apart drawing yourself a schematic while you go. It may take you a couple of tries but you should get the hang of it in no time. If that's too much work, you could always use the top of some old blinds and replace the sides and slats with your own.
Drapes are much easier to create than blinds so it can be fun to mix it up a little bit if you start to get frustrated. There is a big difference though. Drapes are more for the sewing type while blinds are for the engineering type.
Blinds can be made out of almost anything so you are free to use your imagination to create something truly unique. If people really take notice, you may have offers coming in from all over your city to create a masterpiece for others.
